monitor screen donations panama education

What to do with an old monitor in Panama: don't throw it away, it's more valuable than you think

That old monitor you're storing could be the screen where a student learns to code with dual displays. We explain why monitors are valuable and how to donate them.

You have an old monitor. Maybe you replaced it with a bigger one, maybe the desktop it was connected to is gone, or maybe it has an annoying line across the screen you no longer tolerate.

It's sitting in a corner, taking up space. And you probably think nobody wants it anymore.

You're wrong.

Why an old monitor is gold for a student

If you've ever worked with two screens, you know the difference. One screen has your code editor; the other has the documentation in a browser. On one, the design; on the other, the tools. Productivity doubled, minimum.

Now imagine you've never had two screens. That you've always worked on a single small monitor, or worse, a 13-inch laptop display. For a student learning to code, design, or edit, a second monitor isn't a luxury — it's a tool that completely changes the learning experience.

At Crezendo, every donated monitor becomes a workstation. And every workstation is where someone learns a trade.

Monitors we accept

We don't need the latest 4K displays. We need screens that work:

  • LCD monitors — any size from 15 inches up
  • LED monitors — the most common today
  • VGA monitors — yes, the old ones with the blue connector still work
  • HDMI monitors — perfect for modern laptops
  • DisplayPort monitors — for desktops and workstations

"But my monitor has a dead pixel"

A dead pixel doesn't stop someone from learning to code. Or designing a website. Or editing a spreadsheet.

We accept monitors with:

  • Dead pixels (one or several)
  • Lines on the screen (as long as the image is still legible)
  • Scratches on the bezel or stand
  • General signs of use
  • No stand (we can improvise a support)
  • No cables (we have spares)

The only thing we need is for the screen to display an image. If the image is legible, the monitor works.

"It's really old — it's a CRT"

CRT monitors (the big, heavy ones) are rarely used now, but if you have a working one, we'll take it. Some of our electronics workshops use them to teach how cathode ray tubes and analog signals work.

If it doesn't work, we disassemble it and salvage the internal components.

What we do with your monitor

1. Image test We plug it in and verify it displays an image correctly. We check ports, buttons, and the stand.

2. Cleaning and setup We clean the screen, check colors and brightness, and set the optimal resolution.

3. Pairing We pair it with a donated desktop or laptop to create a complete workstation.

4. Assignment The workstation goes to one of our training centers or directly to a student who needs it.

The dual setup that changes everything

One of the most popular configurations at Crezendo is the dual station: a donated laptop + a donated monitor. With an HDMI cable (which we also accept as a donation), the student has two screens at zero cost.

This is especially valuable in our courses on:

  • Web development — code on one screen, output on the other
  • Graphic design — tools on one screen, canvas on the other
  • Advanced office skills — spreadsheets on one screen, documents on the other
  • Video editing — timeline on one screen, preview on the other

How to pack a monitor for donation

If you're shipping it, protect it well:

  • Wrap it in bubble wrap or blankets
  • If you have the original box, use it
  • If not, use a cardboard box with padding on all sides
  • Put tape on the screen to prevent scratches

If you're in Panama City, we'll pick it up and handle the transport ourselves.

Where to deliver your monitor

In Panama City: We arrange pickup. Monitors are fragile, so we prefer to transport them ourselves.

In the interior of the country: Ship it well-packed via courier.

The monitor you're not using is the screen someone needs

A monitor sitting in a corner of your home or office is wasted space. For a Crezendo student, it's the difference between working on a 13-inch screen and having a real productive setup.

Don't throw it out. Don't let it collect dust. Donate it and someone will use it every single day.
